FAMILY STUDIES BUILDING – UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT
A & A Window Products was selected as the general contractor for the façade repair at the Family Studies Building in Storrs, CT. The construction is nearly 100 year old masonry over terra cotta.
The windows were chosen to closely resemble the existing steel sash with true divided lites. Taking into consideration the existing terra cotta back up system, the window installation needed to be intricately fastened to the building, increasing the difficulty of this project.
In addition to the window replacement, A & A Window Products scope included masonry repairs, hazardous waste removal and abatement, roofing, repair to existing copper gutter and downspouts, plaster, painting, door hardware repair, as well as minor site landscaping and general conditions.
PROJECT SPOTLIGHT – Harvard University
Tuchman Hall is part of a five building group of dormitories with an adjacent common area building. A & A Window Products, Inc. was hired to furnish and install commercial windows, doors and entrances as part of a four year plan to restore the exterior facade. The facade work took place immediately following the start of summer break and was completed in mid-August to allow the University time to get the dormitories ready for the arrival of the first day of school. The work included 240 weather-sealed window openings and approximately eight storefronts and entrances, and was completed in just over an eight week period.
